What crude soybean oil is

Crude soybean oil is soybean oil that has been pressed and filtered but not refined. We obtain it on mechanical screw presses, without solvents, so the oil reaches the tank with its natural colour, mild bean flavour and the phospholipids and tocopherols that soybeans carry.

Cold pressed soybean oil is the version made in a single pass at low temperature. Pressing again, sometimes with gentle heat, raises the yield; that oil is still unrefined soybean oil and is sold as crude.

Soybeans hold less oil than sunflower seeds, so pressing leaves a large share of protein-rich cake. We sell it as soybean cake for feed, which keeps the whole bean in use.

Soybeans from our own farms

The beans come from our member farms and are stored in our silos until processing. How we grow them is described on the soybean farming page. With the crop and the plant in one chain, we can plan the press schedule and hold volumes for contract buyers.

Our annual capacity is 33,000 t of soybean oil, the second largest line after sunflower. Soya crude oil from this line suits buyers who refine it themselves or use it in feed.

Quality checks and grades

Our laboratory tests the soybeans as they arrive and checks the oil after pressing and filtration. That gives each lot of unrefined soybean oil a documented starting point before it leaves the plant.

Cold pressed soybean oil from a single low-temperature pass keeps the most natural character but gives a lower yield. Crude oil from repeated pressing is the usual choice for refiners and feed producers who need volume and a steady specification.
